Toronto's indie-synth duo comprised of members Jordan Shew and Erin Roblin release their track "When It Started."

Citing influences from groups like CHVRCHES, Oh Wonder, M83, Stars and Metric - Cubs Refrain is "reimagining how indie rock and synth-pop collide."

The band has spent the past year meticulously writing, recording, and self-producing their forthcoming debut album Tell Me You Love Me - set to release in early 2018.

Drawing inspiration from their teenage years, they describe their newest single as:

"A plunge into an adolescent state of mind. There are so many emotions flying around at that time, and so many new experiences that are really nostalgic to look back on. I wrote this song on the train on my commute to work, which is the same train I’d take on my escapist trips to the city as a kid, so it really helped channel certain memories. When you’re young there’s a grand romanticism about running away and leaving everything behind, fuelled by blind courage and young lust. You find yourself faced with situations you didn’t anticipate and learning things that both terrify and excite you. You eventually realize that nobody really knows anything, and retrospectively, it’s kind of hilarious, ‘cause of course you always played it off like you knew it all. “When It Started” marks the beginning of a story told throughout the album, of a na├»ve romance and the two kids it swept away."
