“Hardest Thing Of All” is a tribute to Royal’s father who lost his battle to Alzheimer's late last year. "More than any other song on the album, I feel like the grief I felt in losing my father, and the love I felt for him and my wife rang deepest in the words of this song,” says Royal, “ I felt them both so strongly the day we recorded the vocals. You can hear it in every phrase."

Directed by Mitch Fillion (Southern Souls) these emotions ring true within the video as well. "I wanted the visual story to match the stark yet deep emotional core of the song. I think Mitch captured it perfectly,” Royal continues, “choosing to cast my wife as the love lost, added an additional weight on the day of the shoot as I can't imagine ever not having her in my life"

The contrast of love and loss dominated the entire creative process of Ever After The Farewell. Recorded in London with Jamie Scott (Niall Horan / Calum Scott), the aim was to capture the rawest possible sound, with most of the songs on the album being recorded the day they were written. To heighten the emotion, the music was recorded on the Beatles EMI console that made Abbey Road possible. “Every day I walked into the studio in London UK with the ghosts of my musical hero’s sitting beside me.” said Royal. “All of my life I wanted to make music with the Beatles, and now I feel like I have”.

The multi Juno Award nominated singer songwriter is currently on a headlining tour across Canada, playing some of the country’s most prestigious rooms including The Winspear in Edmonton and Toronto’s iconic Massey Hall. The Ever After The Farewell Tour will continue on for most of 2018, heading south to the US and overseas to the UK and Europe.
