Critically acclaimed Canadian DJ duo, A Tribe Called Red, share their third new single of the summer, Tanokumbia. Accompanying the duo are Black Bear – a group of Pow Wow singers and drum group, who also appeared on A Tribe’s first single of the summer, The OG – and El Dusty – Texan DJ and nu-cumbia pioneer. This collaboration blends a Southern Texas barrio anthem with the signature genre and style-blending sound that has made A Tribe Called Red an international force to be reckoned with.

This song is a reminder that there are no borders for the Indigenous peoples. Canada, the US, Central and South America are filled with distinct nations sharing more than 10,000 years of common history.  Being in the Halluci Nation has been about searching the earth for like-minded individuals to join in unity,” explained the duo.

From Corpus Christi, TX, El Dusty has been one person, in particular, we have always felt walked a similar path as us. With Black Bear holding down the vocals and T.O.N.T.O giving us a massive bassline, Tanokumbia was intended for the dance floor. We dedicate this to our people who suffer because of colonial borders. In hopes that the condor will meet the eagle to the sounds of Cumbia PowWow.”

Working with ATCR has been super dope! I met them backstage at Mad Decent Block Party back in 2016 and we became brothers ever since,” said El Dusty. “We’ve been planning for years, and we finally have a song to release and it’s FIRE! The best of both worlds!”

A Tribe Called Red recently wrapped up their Canadian summer tour and have added additional dates to their American and European fall tour legs. They will kick off the American dates in Washington, DC on September 10th with a special free performance at the Kennedy Centre that will celebrate the revered campus's new expansion, called the REACH - innovative indoor and outdoor spaces that will help bring together artists and community groups to create and learn from each other.
